Same as in humans,’ Infectious diseases can be transmitted through different ways like air and into the bloodstream and may be from bedding, bowls, grooming equipment, infected insects or animals and through open wounds.

Plus, our pet is now the closest friend for our kids, and it is a must to take care of their healthcare from diseases and parasites. It is a MUST to take care of them and have a big responsibility to give them both a proper care and an unconditional love. Ss you can see and maybe experienced that dogs are sometimes more loyal than your close friends! So it is the last thing to take some time to protect them and take care of their health.

This topic is so vast and has too many details. So I am going to post several articles about different diseases explaining and putting information about each one of them.

Dog Vaccination – Is It really Protective?

Dog-Vaccine

After knowing all these Common Diseases in Dogs, it is essential to talk about Dog Vaccination. If we want to compare Pets in general to us, we can consider them as kids, which means they need good healthcare with proper attention. One of the crucial things to do to them is to give them Vaccines on time to protect them and take care of their healthcare and without highlight that to prevent infections and diseases.

All dogs need vaccinating early in their lives to protect them from harmful diseases and infections such as distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, leptospirosis, and even kennel cough we mentioned above. Some of them are Fatal diseases.

Later on, in your puppy live, it will need to have booster vaccinations too so that it remains immune from diseases. Vaccines are the only proven method of protecting both Animals and Humans against different conditions, which is why vaccines are imperative to get your dog vaccinated at the correct time, that we will talk about later on in the next articles.

What Are Vaccines – Are They Important?

Vaccines help prepare a dog’s immune system to defend itself from any invasion from infections. Vaccines, in short, are antigens, which mimic the organisms that cause infections in dogs in a dog’s immune system, but don’t create the disease.

The purpose of it is to mildly stimulate the immune system by having it recognizes the antigens present and take the necessary actions required to protect Dogsbody from infections. This way, if a dog becomes exposed to the real diseases, its immune system will recognize it immediately, and therefore will be prepared to fight it off.

Core And Non-Core Vaccines

Core vaccinations are vital vaccines to all canines based on three main things, a universal risk of exposure, the severity of the disease, and the risk of transmission to other dogs. As we said before, some diseases are fatal to dogs, as well as the risk of transmission to other animal species and human beings like Rabies.

Core Vaccines that considered by The American Animal Hospital Association are:

  • Canine Parvovirus.
  • Canine Distemper.
  • Hepatitis.
  • Rabies.

Non-core – vaccines include:

  • Canine Influenza.
  • Bordetella.
  • Leptospirosis.
  • Lyme Disease.

These vaccines are not considered Core. However, they are essential for dogs who may be getting exposed to these infectious diseases.

When Should You Get Your Dog Vaccinated?

In general, you should start to vaccinate your dog or puppy as soon as you get the puppy in their early life, usually between 6 and 8 weeks. Generally, the puppy before six weeks of its life receive antibodies and become immune from the mother’s milk, especially if the mother has a healthy immune system.

Let us not forget that your dog needs booster vaccinations so that it has long-lasting immunity from the infections we mentioned before.

Thank you for such a thorough article. We just recently took in a stray puppy, so I am online trying to figure this all out. Vaccinations are extremely important in my opinion and I want my new puppy to be strong and healthy. Being a stray, I don’t have any history on the pup, how do I know what vaccines he will need? I really don’t even know how old he is either, is this something a veterinarian will be able to help me with?

I wish I’d known more about taking care of my pets on a more professional and thorough basis because I’m pretty sure all of my pets would have lived much longer and happier lives.

I think it’s great that you’re educating people on how to take care of their pets and I think you’ll be an amazing role model, especially for younger kids that just got their first pooch and aren’t sure where to start.
